Black Sabbath - Born Again

Much was said at the time that the cover was a copy of the album of Depeche Mode New Life from 1981, but was not it. So I read on the site Minuto do Heavy Metal (Heavy Metal's minute), that this cover was created by Steve 'Krusher' Joule and is a long story.

After confirming that Ian Gillan (Deep Purple) and also the return of Bill Ward (drums) for the album, Don decided to steal as much of the team that worked with Ozzy and Sharon.

Steve 'Krusher' Joule already made the covers of Ozzy and was asked to create sketches for the new album from Black Sabbath, the Born Again. But Steve did not want to lose the work and friendship with Ozzy, he decided to create this basic outline and ridiculous, to members from Sabbath saw it and disapproved his art, but it was not what happened.


Also according to the site of Heavy Metal Minute. Four ideas were sent to cover and one of which was based on the baby on the cover of a magazine called Alive Mind which was released in 1968. Steve made a copy in black and white, created the horns, hooves, teeth and used the oddest color combination that he thought possible.

Tony Iommi loved the cover and Geezer Butler looked at and said, "It sucks, but it is fucking great!". The manager Don not only loved but also decided to make a this baby costume for one dwarf use on tour.

Steve was suddenly forced to make that cover for a large amount of money. After rolling for a while, not wanting to make the cover, he along with his neighbor and a bottle of Jack Daniels, and into the night, quickly made the cover, including all the writing, to receive the combined.

Bill Ward has said he personally hated That's the album cover and According to him, Ian Gillan Told That the press he vomited When he first saw the cover. However, Tony Iommi approved the album cover.

Well, I like this cover and this album, but this cover has been considered one of the worst album covers ever. The British magazine, Kerrang!, ranked the cover in second place behind only, the Scorpions' Lovedrive, on their list of "10 Worst Album Sleeves In Metal/Hard Rock". The list was based on votes from the magazine's readers. Well, tell me your opinion. =)

RIP Ronnie James Dio - Holy Diver

Yesterday we lost one of the greatest metal voices of the world. It was very sad to read that Ronnie James Dio pass away. I'm very sad, but life goes on. Unfortunately our Metal Gods are getting old… And pass away for other reasons too...

We've already lost genius like Randy Roads (Ozzy), Dimmebag Darrel (Pantera), Eric Carr (Kiss), Cliff Burton (Metallica), John Bonham (Led Zeppelin), and others. I know it's kinda sad, but I'll make a new series called RIP. I will begin with a cover of Dio to show my feelings for his loss.

This cover was done by painter and artist Randy Berrett. He had done many works we've seen but we didn't know was made by him. He had done illustrations, designs, sketches and paintings for Pixar films like Finding Neno, The Incredibles, Ratatouille and others.

I really like this cover art style. Even more in the 80s, that's use a colorful and use horribles computer graphics.

In Metal, this style of painting was done by famous artists, or almost famous. We can see that style on the covers of Kiss, Iron Maiden and others. I think this style was used because this is one of better techniques that could be used to create a medieval world, dark world, or unreal world for a metal album cover.

This album was released in 1983 and has hits like Holy Diver and Rainbow in The Dark, with keyboard riif characteristic.

Rest In Peace Dio. I know you enjoyed everything that you did have to and now you be with another Gods os Metal. My feelings to family, friends and fans.

Ontem perdemos uma das maiores vozes do metal mundial. Foi muito triste ler a notícia que o Ronnie James Dio morreu. Fiquei super triste, mas a vida continua. Infelizmente nossos Deuses do Metal estão ficando velhos e estão morrendo. Além disso ainda os perdemos por outras razões…

Já perdemos caras como Randy Roads (Ozzy), Dimmebag Darrel (Pantera), Eric Carr (Kiss), Cliff Burton (Metallica), John Boham (Led Zeppelin), entre outros. Eu sei que é meio triste, mas vou fazer uma série nova que se chama RIP. Vou começar por uma capa do Dio para mostrar meus sentimentos pela perda tão recente.

Essa capa foi feita pelo pintor e artista Randy Berrett. Ele também já fez muito trabalhos que vimos por aí e não sabíamos. Ele participou fazendo ilustrações, concepções, rascunhos e pinturas de filmes da Pixar, como Procurando Neno, Os Incríveis, Ratatouille e outros.

Gosto bastante desse estilo de capa. Ainda mais nos anos 80 que as coisas eram coloridas e com uso de computação gráfica bem fraquinha ainda.

No Metal, esse estilo de pinturas era feita por artistas famosos, ou quase famosos. Podemos ver esse estilo nas capas do Kiss, Iron Maiden e outros. Esse estilo era utilizado bastante por ser uma das únicas técnicas que poderia ser utilizadas pra criar um mundo medieval, sombrio, ou irreal para uma capa de Metal.

Esse disco é de 1983 e tem os hits Holy Diver e Rainbow In The Dark com seu tecladinho característico.
