OMFG! Iron Maiden, please pay Derek Rigs to do your album covers like old times! This cover sucks! Eddie like I met at Killers has nothing like that Eddie! This Eddie is ugly, (OK, I know, I know.. Eddie, must be ugly), but he is very, very ugly! This Eddie looks like the Predator!

I like this album. The music is Iron Maiden, nothing new, but still well done, but this cover... I don't know....

This cover art was made by Melvyn Grant, the same guy who made Fear of The Dark and Virtual XI covers. I like Fear of The Dark cover, but this time...

I don't wanna a shirt with this art.. I'll keep using my old ones. When I look at this cover and compare with Powerslave cover, I feel sad with what's going on with Iron Maiden's covers. Derek Rigs, please come back!! =)

Weezer - Hurley

When I saw this album cover I almost not believed it. Jorge Garcia from Lost is a huge Weezer fan, he met Rivers Cuomo in TV show backstage in May of this year and asked to take a picture with him. This simply picture is the newest album cover that will be released in 14th September.

Rivers Cuomo said: "I was coming up with all kinds of stuff, but ultimately, we just went with some random word that doesn't really have anything to do with anything. I just loved this photo of Jorge Garcia -- it just had this amazing vibe," he continued. "We didn't want to do a fourth self-titled record and we knew people would refer to it as 'the Hurley record' even if left it without that title, so we just called it 'Hurley.' No words are on the cover because all we wanted was his amazing face."

Weezer don't like names on their albums. Some of them are known as "Green album", "Blue Album" and "Red Album" and now ... "Hurley".

Avenged Sevenfold - Nightmare

My new addiction is the newest Album Nightmare from Avenged Sevenfold. This album is a candidate for album of the year for me. I have to say that I didn't know much about A7X before the horrible premature death of Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan. And after read some articles about him and the band, I started to listen and I thought: "yes, this is good!".

When I knew that Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater) would be the drummer of this new album I became crazy! OMG! The best drumer to me, playing at A7X!

It's time to talk about the album cover. This album art was made by an artist called Rafa Alcantara (or Rafacore). He work at Core Entertenment, and this company does everything between design and video direction.

The A7X DVD+CD called Live in the LBC & Diamonds in the Rough, not only was recorded and directed by Rafa Alcantara, like, he did the album cover art. I like very much this kind of language and I think this is the perfect drawing to metal students. I remember when I was young, I used to draw in my books and notepads things like this.

I know that this album cover design is very literal, but I really like it. I love the tribute photo inside the CD that shows the band with his great friend "The Rev" that has gone last december. A beautiful tribute. Every minute of the disc is very worthwhile.

This album is amazing! Listen it!

Hugh Syme Album Covers

Well, let's talk about Hugh Syme. Another designer with specialization in album covers design. As I already said, he did ALL the Rush's album covers since 1975! Your style is look like digital paint + surrealistic + manipulation pictures.

But the thing that I like more in Hugh style is the concept. All your creations has been thinking in concept. The design style is just a tool to developed your ideas.

When I look through these covers that I posted here, I get a trip and I imagine a lot of things. I see concepts, the music, the feelings...

That's it I want when I try to do some art, design ou art direction. Concept is everything! Style is just a tool ;)

Aerosmith - Get a Grip

This album cover is like Pink Floyd - Atom Heart Mother, but the difference is the piecing and the closest picture.

Dream Theater - Octavarium

I really like Hugh's design, but sometimes he does covers very similar to the Storm Thorgerson.

Bem, vamos falar sobre Hugh Syme. Outro designer com especialização em design de capas de discos. Como eu já disse, ele faz TODAS as capas do Rush desde 1975! Seu estilo é parecido com um pintura digital + manipulação de fotos + surrealismo.

Mas a coisa que eu mais gosto no estilo Hugh é o conceito. Todas as suas criações foram pensadas no conceito. O estilo de seu design é apenas uma ferramenta para desenvolver suas idéias.

Quando eu olho através dessas capas que eu postei aqui, eu viajo e imagino um monte de coisas. Eu penso nos conceitos, na música, nos sentimentos ...

É isso que eu quero quando eu tento fazer alguma arte, design ou direção de arte. Conceito é tudo! A linguagem é apenas uma ferramenta ;)

Megadeth - Youthanasia

Youthanasia, for me, is the best Megadeth's album. This record is one of the album I really listen a lot. Like a thousands times =)

Who made this album cover was Hugh Syme, the same designer who did album covers from Rush, Iron Maiden, Dream Theater and others. Since 1975 he did all Rush's album covers! Since 1975!!! He also appeared playing keyboards in some Rush records.

Well, lets talk about Megadeth Youthanasia's album. I like the Hugh's design style. Is like Storm Thogerson's design style (Pink Floyd's covers). For progressive bands and for this album cover from Megadeth, I think it is a awesome album cover.

This record talks about polemics questions like death, war, and incest. Also talk about Dave Mustaine's problems with heroin.

This controversal digital art surrealistic was banned from some countries like Malaysia and Singapore, because the cover art was defamatory. Do me a favor! This cover is light compared to others cover art from Cannibal Corpse for example ;)

I really like this design style. Is like Dalí using Adobe Photoshop manipulation ;)

O Youthanasia, para mim, é o melhor álbum do Megadeth. Este disco é um dos o discos que eu mais escutei na vida. =)

Quem fez esta capa foi Hugh Syme, o mesmo designer que fez as capas de discos do Rush, Iron Maiden, Dream Theater e outros. Desde 1975, ele fez TODAS capas do Rush! Desde 1975! Ele também aparece tocando teclado em alguns discos Rush.

Bem, vamos falar sobre o Youthanasia. Eu gosto muito desse estilo de design do Hugh. É parecido com o do Storm Thogerson (que fez as capas do Pink Floyd). Pra bandas de metal progressivo e pra essa capa do Megadeth, eu

acho que é um estilo de capa incrível.

Este disco fala sobre questões polêmicas como a morte, guerra, e incesto. Também fala sobre os problemas Dave Mustaine com heroína.

Esta arte digital-surrealista foi banida em alguns países como a Malásia e Singapura, porque a arte é difamatório. Fala sério! Esta capa é leve em comparação com outras capas por aí como as do Cannibal Corpse, por exemplo;)

Eu realmente gosto deste estilo de design. É tipo o Dalí usando manipulações no Photoshop ;)

Em breve vou falar mais sobre Hugh Syme e suas criações para os discos do Rush.

Iron Maiden - Discography

I'm a huge fan of Iron Maiden. I already listen his albuns many and many times. In this days, I didn't listen too much, but sometimes, Evil That Men Do play in my shuffle iTunes Music and I rise de volume and sing it loud!

Well, Iron Maiden is not complete without Eddie and one artist can say "I created the Eddie" is Derek Riggs. His is the man! I love his works with Iron and others bands, but, in sometimes, I don't like some the album cover that he design… well, this is my oppinion. =)

Other guys like Melvyn Grant, Tim Bradstreet, David Patchett, Mark Wilkinson and Hugh Syme did contrinuition to Iron Mainden's album covers. But Only Derek Riggs made like 90 percent of Iron's album covers. His is also a member of Iron ;)

This it was the firts album cover produced by Derek in 1980. The Iron's Logo was put too much close to the border, but the design I just like it.

Eu sou muito fã de Iron Maiden. Eu já ouvi esses discos um milhão de vezes cada! Hoje em dia não escuto tanto, mas toda vez que toca The Evil That Men Do no meu iTunes eu aumento o volume e canto junto com o Bruce ;)

Bem, o Iron Maiden não é completo sem o Eddie, e o único cara do mundo que pode dizer: "eu criei o Eddie" é Derek Riggs. Ele é o cara! Acho seus desenhos muito foda, tanto do Iron, quanto de outras bandas, mas algumas vezes ele faz umas coisas feias e eu não curto muito não.. enfim.. é a minha opinião =)

Outros caras também fizeram algumas capas dos discos do Iron como Melvyn Grant, Tim Bradstreet, David Patchett, Mark Wilkinson e Hugh Syme, mas só Derek Riggs fez 90 porcento das capas. Ele é quase um integrante da banda.

Metallica - Masters of Puppets

To do this post I made a extensive research to talk about the best metal album ever made in the world! (for me of course). In my research I discovered that who made the sleeve design of the album cover was Don Brautigam. In the right bottom corner has two small letters, D.B. They are the initials of Don. I didn't saw them, but I guess in the LP version you will see.

He painted this album cover almost 25 years ago and he told that design was originally a sketch done by James Hetfield. Since them, Don Brautiham has done hundreds of paintings for album covers, books and others. His list of clients includes AC/DC, ZZ Top and Rolling Stones.

The album cover design was done inspirated in the album concept. Masters of Pupptes talks about drugs and things that controls your life. This album was made in 1986!!! Do you believe?? 86!!!! This album is so heavy and innovative!

Master of Puppets is the second concept album from Metallica. And this release was the last album recorded by the genius Bassist Cliff Burtor. He died in 1886 when the band's tour bus crashed in Sweden. Was a tragedy. The Metal fans miss him a lot.

Many prints of the album featured a parody of the Pariental "explicit lyrics" warning labels. If you have this album, enjoy! Listen and headbanger!

This cover is so good that even the Todd McFarlane Toys made this 3D version you can put on your bookshelf ;)

Para escrever este post eu fiz muita pesquisa para falar sobre o melhor disco de metal já feito no mundo! (Para mim claro). Em minha pesquisa eu descobri que quem fez a capa do álbum foi Don Brautiham. No canto inferior direito tem duas letras pequenas, D.B. Elas são as iniciais de Don. Eu não consegui ver, mas acho que na versão em LP você consiga ver.

Essa capa é uma pintura e foi feita a quase 25 anos! Ele disse que o projeto era originalmente um rascunho feito por James Hetfield. Desde então, Don Brautiham tem feito centenas de pinturas para capas de discos, livros e outros. Sua lista de clientes inclui AC/DC, ZZ Top e Rolling Stones.

Muitas cópias do disco tiveram uma paródia daquele Aviso Pariental de letras explícitas.

Essa capa é tão boa que até a linha de brinquedos (adultos) do Todd McFarlane fez essa versão em 3D pra você colocar na sua estante ;)
